Pre-shot Routine and Mental Game
  1. Be ready to bowl when it's your turn and collect your thoughts.
  2. Develop a pre-shot routine and stick to it. Make decisions and be confident in them. If it becomes a mistake, turn it into a lesson for the future.
  3. Take a deep breath in and out before you start your approach. This will help you to relax and make better shots and decisions.
  4. Listen to your self-talk while bowling. Eliminate all negative words and thoughts. Positive words and thoughts will increase your confidence level. Anything that you wouldn't say to a friend or teammate should be eliminated from your self-talk.
  5. Focus on the good, not the bad.
  6. Don't limit yourself by setting a score as a goal. Think about making good shots, one at a time. If you keep making good shots, the good scores will follow. Over attention to results can create fear-based bowling.
  7. Mental toughness can be described as having the ability to focus more on your performance rather than the results.
  8. Keep your mind in the present only. Thinking about the future or the past may increase pressure and decrease your focus.
  9. Frustration is usually a sign that you are not letting go of previous bad results. After a bad result, learn what you can and let the rest go.
  10. To be successful, your mind and body must work together. Your mind is the most important part of this because your mind controls your body.
