It was 6 p.m. and time to leave for bowling. I participate in the Breakaway Men's League at Harvest Lanes in St. Peters, Missouri. Scores have been incredibly high this season with five bowlers averaging over 245. On November 30th I not only saw high scoring, I witnessed history as five bowlers from nearby Lindenwood University claimed their place in the record books with the highest five-player team game in USBC history, totalling 1434.
Connor Druhm (278), Eddie Cetwinski (279), E.J. Parks (300), Brad Miller (279) and Ryan Council (298), products of the Lindenwood bowling program (Druhm, Cetwinski and Miller are current students), struck on all but five shots in the second game of the Breakaway Men's League to top the previous record of 1,413, set by O.T. Hill's of St. Charles, Mo., in 2001.
To watch this in person was amazing as the entire league stopped bowling when Buckets On Deck started their 10th frame. To watch each bowler perform in the 10th frame rivaled a walk off home run to win a baseball game. Several people had their cell phones out recording the final frame. I was fortunate enough to gather enough video to produce this video.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Buckets on Deck for a full interview on the Insidebowling.com show with my co-host Doug Lakey on December 5th. All Insidebowling.com shows can be found here.
The Breakaway Men's league moved to Harvest Lanes this year after having their previous home center close. The league has always had high scores and some of the best local players participate in the league. League secretary Bill Uthoff contributed video footage and does a tremendous job as the league's secretary. He would like to see the league grow to a full field of 24 teams next season. If you think your team has what it takes to break the record, I suggest joining this league.
