Reading Lane Conditions & Warm Up

Ball #1 - Shoot for the 7 pin. See how the oil pattern compares with what you are used to.

Ball #2 - Shoot for the 10 pin. Is it the same or different from what you are used to? As you shoot your corners, watch other bowlers to see the best line to the pocket.

Ball #3 & #4 - Shoot for the pocket. Test stance position and target areas and make any adjustments as needed.

Ball #5 & #6 - Get more comfortable with one ball or try other equipment.

  • Be sure to test both corner spare shots in practice. There is no reward for striking in practice.
  • By reading the reaction of the ball and making necessary adjustments, you should be able to line up to the pocket within about 4 shots.
  • As a general rule, move in the same direction as the error at about a 2 to 1 ratio. Lane adjustments should usually be made after good shots only. Trust what you see and feel.
